The municipal elections in November were influenced by gerrymandering efforts, multiple impending supreme court verdicts and the usual lower urgency to vote than during presidential elections. However, Americans everywhere, like in Wilmington, may have noticed a very loud campaign coming from New York. The campaign of self-proclaimed democratic socialist mayor elect, Zohran Mamdani was an ambitious campaign that relied on a heavy social media presence, and in turn was heavily influenced by it. Mamdani’s brand, a blue poster with his name in a bold orange, also became very recognizable.
