September, 2025: There is currently no active volcanic eruption in the Grindavík area. – Even though the eruption has stopped it is still strictly forbidden to hike on the lava as the lava underneath might still be fresh. – There is still a possibility of gas pollution in the eruption area, monitor gas pollution here: https://loftgaedi.is/?zoomLevel=11&lat=63.966904309995066&lng=-22.342057096747272– Grindavik is open. Crevasses can be expected so stay on paths. The area is still considered hazardous due to volcanic unrest. In case of elevated threat level, evacuation sirens will be activated. Take notice where exits are to get out of town.
