Está amparada por la resolución número 003768 de 1981, emanada del Ministerio de Gobierno, y con tarifa postal reducida según resolución número 1128 del 5 de mayo de 1982. Su fin primordial es la difusión de trabajos originales que contribuyan a ampliar los conocimientos en biomedicina.
