François Henri “Jack” LaLanne rançois Henri “Jack” LaLanne (September 26, 1914 – January 23, 2011) was an American fitness pioneer, nutrition advocate, television host, and motivational speaker widely known as the “Godfather of Fitness.” Born in San Francisco to French immigrant parents, LaLanne struggled with poor health and a diet heavy in sugar and junk food as a child. At age 15, after hearing a lecture by health food pioneer Paul Bragg, he transformed his lifestyle by adopting disciplined exercise and a healthy diet.
