About glasgowcathedral.org.uk
Glasgow Cathedral stands where the city began. On a hillside above the Molendinar burn, St Kentigern — Mungo, “the dear one” — established his church in the sixth century, and around his grave a city grew. The present building, raised through the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, is the finest medieval cathedral surviving on the Scottish mainland: the only one to pass through the Reformation with its fabric whole, saved by the craftsmen and citizens of Glasgow who would not see it fall.
