About frazettamuseum.com
Even the legendary fantasy artist occasionally traded barbarians and beasts for Hollywood comedy. This graphite sketch is a preliminary study for the poster to MGM's 1974 release Mixed Company, created during a period when his distinctive hand was much in demand for movie advertising. The reverse offers a completely different kind of Frazetta world: a rough of his famous John Carter and the Savage Apes of Mars. Rendered in graphite on paper with an image area of 5.5" x 3.25", and in graphite and watercolor with an image area of 6" x 4.5" on the reverse. Toning, with heavier toning on the edges, smudging, light rippling from watercolors, and minor creasing/handling wear.
