About arsof-history.org

As USASOC honors the heroism and sacrifice of Allied soldiers in the 6 June 1944 invasion of Normandy, it is fitting to remember the service of the Rangers on D-Day. Two Ranger Battalions, the 2nd and 5th, participated in the landings. They were split into three groups, dubbed Force A, Force B, and Force C. The Commander of the 2nd Ranger Battalion and overall commander of the Provisional Ranger Force was Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) James E. Rudder, who led Force A. Composed of Companies D, E, and F, 2nd Rangers, Force A scaled the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc to seize the enemy guns believed to be emplaced there.
